I went to my parents' house tonight to help out with some stuff while Casey was at a church meeting, and happened upon a notebook that was a serious blast from the past. Funny thing is... I had no recollection of this notebook until I read it tonight, and it's been in my old closet all this time. When I was a Mia Maid and just starting attending youth dances, my Mia Maid class decided to keep this binder - and at random times, we would all contribute hand-written notes. They were full of reminders of activities we participated in, guys we had crushes on, little phrases we coined, and the drama of being fourteen. We called ourselves the Friends For Life, and although I only keep in touch with a handful of the girls now, I love that I can look back and think of all them with fondness. What's even better is that my memories of that time period are actually quite painful because of my jaw surgery and starting high school. It was nice to be reminded of some of the good memories of adolescence.
On a different note, it was hilarious to look back on our forms of communication and how much that has changed! Those notes were before facebook, cell phones, texting, and even e-mail being popular. It also reminded me of a time in Vermont - we had a post-Thanksgiving dinner with one of our favorite couples there and the missionaries. Casey was asking the set of elders what year they were born in, and he commented that he and I were born before the Internet. This group of young men looked at us with disbelief, as if they had never considered there was a time before the Internet. It definitely made me feel old!
